The Gili islands are known for their laid back atmosphere but there is plenty to do if you would like to keep busy whilst visiting. We have white sand beaches, turquoise blue waters and the whole island is surrounded by fringing reef which makes it the perfect place for all year diving and snorkelling. If you want to see turtles you are in the right place! Karma Kayak is located right in front of Halik, one of the island’s best diving and snorkelling sites, you just need to walk out of your room and and get into the water.
Stand up paddle boarding or kayaking are great ways to experience the water and you will often see turtles popping up for air and to say hello. On a good day you can make it to Gili Meno and back. BUT be mindful of the currents and check the conditions before you set out. You can hire boards or kayaks from several places on the east side of the island. If you are looking for surf, Gili is no Bali in that area but there is a fast right-hander on the south-east side of the island. Be aware it is a shallow reef break so not for beginners.
There is no better way to explore Gili than on a bicycle. Gili Trawangan is 7km in diameter and takes about 30 minutes to go around the beach road. We recommend you get lost in the middle and find the old coconut plantations and local villages.
Experiencing the sunsets on Gili Trawangan is a must-do and luckily for you Karma Kayak is the perfect spot to watch those magnificent colours in the sky whilst eating delicious tapas food and drinking sangria…or fresh coconuts.
